The Spanish word, 'Palo Santo' translates as 'holy wood'. It has a long history of being used by South America's native people as an essential tool for rituals including cleansing and medicinal healings. Today, it continues to be very popular for cleansing and releasing negative energies, thoughts and feelings, similar to sage.
Coming from the citrus family, it has calming and relaxing notes of lemon, pine and mint which is even more present from the smoke of the smouldering wood.
Palo Santo - Holy Wood
HOW TO USE:
Hold the Palo Santo stick in a flame until it is fully lit, leaving it with a little flame of its own. Allow it to burn for 30 to 45 seconds and if it hasn't already naturally extinguished itself, gently blow out the flame so that only smoke is now produced.
Close the door of each room that you wish to cleanse. Visualise your intentions of removing the negative energy and then filling the room with peace and positive energy. Fill the room with the sacred smoke by slowly circling it around to each corner of the desired room, preferably holding a non flammable bowl or dish underneath it, such as our abalone shells.
After you have finished using the Palo Santo, grind the lit end into a fireproof, non flammable dish or bowl to ensure it has been fully extinguished.
Palo Santo is able to be relit many times due to its slow burning nature.
